 Alex describes his past as a time where he was lost. He knew he wanted to be someone in life, but the path he wanted to take was not clear. He knew he needed to change, but he experienced many obstacles blocking his ability to succeed. Alex attended a high school in his neighborhood, but he did not like the school because he could not step away from confrontations of other students. He gave up. Walking away was “the easiest thing to do,” he noted. He was to stay at home and have a great time in life, but it soon became clear that this lifestyle could not be a permanent solution.
“I can do something with my life.”Alex’s brother commented about the Job Corps program, but Alex did not pay much attention to him. Only when a close friend commented about Long Beach Job Corps did he become interested in the school. His friend was in the program and was having success, so Alex enrolled and became a student in SIATech. The biggest change that Alex noticed was that he did not have the distractions of other negative people around him, so it led him to be able to concentrate in his studies. Positive people came into his life and he finally felt, “I can do something with my life.”
Alex’s success has been throughout all the SIATech high school classes at Long Beach Job Corps. Alex has been awarded many Student of the Month Awards. He plans to succeed in joining the Cement Union after his studies. We know that he will be very successful at whatever he does, because he has a large amount of intelligence and professionalism lighting his future. |
