In this free webinar, participants will learn how to design, implement, and sustain a community-based research seminar that engages students in real life topics from their neighborhood. Participants will also learn the basics of critical pedagogy, a teaching approach that provides students the opportunity to analyze power structures and improve every day living conditions within their communities. Participants will also learn how to design a research seminar topic along with their students to ensure it is a topic that is meaningful to them.
Jake Gordon is currently Principal of Los Angeles SIATech Charter High School and previously served as the Principal at the San Bernardino SIATech site from 2007 to 2010. Mr. Gordon started his career as a teacher and taught Social Studies, Graphic Design, and Senior Projects. Prior to joining SIATech, he worked as a Social Studies teacher at a high school in East San Jose with a predominately at-promise population. Mr. Gordon earned his masters in Educational Administration from California State University Long Beach and his doctorate in Educational Leadership at the same university with a focus on Social Justice Leadership.
